Frequently Asked Questions

What is therapy and/or counseling?

Both therapy and counseling are opportunities to talk about issues that are important to you. You will have a trained objective person to help you work through current and past situations. They can also help you prepare to manage future circumstances.

Therapy is typically more long-term and can be about one specific problem or multiple problems.

Counseling focuses on a specific issue for a limited amount of time.

Why should I seek help?

Because Help is Healthy®! People see a therapist for a wide range of reasons. Sometimes an event occurs that causes an individual to seek help.  Others may seek help because it provides a trained objective person to assist with working through issues that they may have been struggling with for years. It can also help offer a sense of life control and equip you with tools to make better decisions or changes in your life.

Do you provide in-person or online counseling?

I offer both in-person and virtual services during the late afternoon, evening and on Saturdays. In-person sessions are currently held on Saturdays in St. Petersburg while virtual sessions are conducted via a secure and easy-to-use Telehealth platform.  Clients must be located in Florida at the time services are provided.

The St. Petersburg address is 2837 1st Avenue North St. Petersburg, Fl 33713.

How long do appointments last and when can we meet?

Individual appointments are usually 50 minutes. This is the standard length of an individual counseling session. Couples counseling and therapy can take 60 – 90 minutes. The time frame is determined in advance prior to scheduling the appointment.

If you are interested in longer intensive sessions contact me regarding availability and pricing.

Services are available during the late afternoon, evening, and on Saturdays

Good Faith Estimate

Under Section 2799B-6 of the Public Health Service Act, health care providers and health care facilities are required to inform individuals who are not enrolled in a plan or coverage or a Federal health care program, or not seeking to file a claim with their plan or coverage both orally and in writing of their ability, upon request or at the time of scheduling health care items and services, to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” of expected charges.

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost.

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

When applicable, you will receive a Good Faith Estimate from me.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes. However, in order to bill services under insurance, a mental health diagnosis and medical necessity is typically required. I use an outside agency for insurance administrative support.

For individual sessions, I accept Oscar Health, United Healthcare, Oxford, Cigna, and Aetna (non-government plans).

For couples counseling, insurance coverage is limited. Eligibility to use insurance for Couples services should be discussed during the consultation appointment.

If I do not accept your insurance a Superbill can be provided for you to submit for out of network care.

What is your cancellation policy?

I require 24-hour advance notice of cancellation or you will need to pay for the appointment. It is important that we meet consistently in order to make progress. Because appointment slots are limited, if you do not provide timely notification, others in need of services could be affected.

Do you offer a free consultation?

Yes, I do over a complimentary 15 minute virtual consultation.  However, if you schedule the appointment and fail to show or fail to cancel with 24-hour notice you will be charged a $30 fee. A credit card is required prior to confirming the scheduled appointment.

How can I speak with you if I have additional questions?

I appreciate that you would like to speak with me before investing in you.  Due to my limited availability, you must schedule a one-time complimentary 15-minute virtual consultation. During this appointment you will have my full attention and all of your questions can be addressed. Additionally, you are encouraged to review my website to learn more about me and the services provided prior to the appointment.  Remember, if you schedule the appointment and fail to show or cancel with less than 24-hour notice you will be charged a $30 fee.

I am ready to move forward.  What is the next step?

If you schedule the appointment and fail to show or fail to cancel with 24-hour notice you will be charged a $30 fee.
